Facts On File’s Science Online is a curriculum-oriented database that offers a comprehensive, authoritative overview of the sciences. Diagrams, definitions, biographies, and essays are arranged by scientific topic and contain thousands of hyperlinks that create thematic paths through the vast content. Joining a powerful search engine with broad-ranging science content, Science Online provides students, teachers, and researchers with a complete science reference solution. This database contains extensive reference information on a broad range of scientific disciplines. The content is organized by record type, subject area, and the National Science Education Content Standards and Benchmarks, offering educators a handy tool for maximizing the potential of this powerful database.

An Authoritative and Highly Visual Science Resource
Science Online conveys the continuously evolving and visual nature of the discipline by providing users with easy access to thousands of science diagrams not available in any similar product. Users can follow an extensive network of hyperlinks through the vast content to related topics by way of intuitive associations. Users are able to search by keyword or phrase, browse by topic or subject area, or use the A-to-Z index. A help page; high-quality print, copy, and save capabilities; web links; and full database citations are also available. Globe & Mail CD-ROM (Networked CD-ROM)
We currently have the 1997, 1998 & 1999 CD-ROMS. There are a variety of ways to search the Globe & Mail CD-ROM. Search by headline, lead, byline, page or full text by going to "Search", "Text Keys". Searches must be exact, for instance, entering World Trade Organization results in 0 hits whereas WTO brings up 99 hits. Go to "Search", "Search Terms" and try a search using personal name, organization, subject or geographical name. There are also features that allow the user to save (on your hard drive) and retrieve searches and individual articles. By using the "Save Query" command the user creates a "Domain" which can then be retrieved at a later date.To bookmark an article select "Insert Bookmark" from the Links menu (while the article is open), name the bookmark (choose a name that reflects the nature of the entry) and you can retrieve it at any time by going to "Display Bookmarks" in the Links menu. To annotate an article select annotate from the links menu and record your comment in the dialog box. A thumbtack icon appears in the upper left hand corner of articles with annotations. To view, double click on the thumbtack. To maintain a list of entries (a Clipping File) from various searches or a subset of a search clip articles using the F2 key or "Clip Document" from the Clip menu.

Articles that have been updated since their appearance in print are date-stamped in the upper right corner of the screen.
